Picture yourself emerging
in January with a stronger, more supple low back, tighter abdominals, and
improved muscle tone in your thighs, hips, shoulders, and the back of your arms.
Imagine having your own yoga sanctuary, one you can retreat to in the comfort of
your own home, to help combat holiday and winter stress and boost your energy
levels. What's amazing is that of the above is potentially achievable with
a yoga tradition known as the Sun Salutation!
Let's explore this ancient technique further....

"Yoga in Nature" concept are the subjects of columnist Catherine Stier's

entirely outdoors, some have been combination outdoor hikes with yoga in a
rustic cabin. Happily, we've received enough positive feedback that we're
hoping to make these yoga classes a weekly occurrence at Spring Valley Nature
Center, Schaumburg, IL.

The January Sky Awaits!
Call me hopelessly optimistic, but as I prepare to batten down the fitness hatches and weather through what may as well be called my Winter Blues season, I am strangely looking forward to one redeeming element: the January sky. Okay, maybe it isn't the only redeeming aspect of the season--snowshoes, owl walks, and the pristine quality of a fresh snow are a few others that come to mind--but it is, I feel an oft overlooked thrill that no other time of the year can duplicate. To witness it, try to take a crisp outdoor walk about 30 minutes before sunset. If at all possible, hike a natural spot....a park, forest preserve, or nature center will do nicely. The more sky you can see, the better; I am particularly fond of finding frozen lakes and marshes, as they afford me a more open feeling. Provided that you've chosen a day that is mostly clear with perhaps a thin, wispy cloud layer, you should be in for a pleasing palette of icy sky hues. Dress warmly; you might even
want to bring a thermos of hot beverage, as it is best to allow at least 10-15 minutes of being quiet and still while taking in the majestic colors and textures. You won't be disappointed!

Finally, proof that we've actually been working when we say we've been working! This clip will open each video, and gives a nice depiction of our theme, philosophy, and extensive repertoire. We're also happy to report that our Phase 1 filming has officially wrapped, and we're now busily editing the raw footage into their final masterpieces. Through swamp treks, bluff climbs, beachside winds, autumnal colors and weather challenges.....
....we're continuing to charge forward with the filming of our instructional videos. What an adventure this has been! And while it sometimes feels like the never-ending project, we are finally close to finishing our first batch of videos. Thank you for your patience in waiting for the the fruits of this undertaking to emerge....believe me, no one is more anxious for the Big Event than yours truly!

Yoga to help us cope?
In the wake of this country's sudden and horrific tragedy, attendance to my yoga classes has been extremely high. It seems we can all benefit from some emotional sanctuary as we struggle to come to terms with what happened on Tuesday, September 11. While it's not a magic cure-all, yoga may help fill an effective role in moderating the stress and grief we're all experiencing.
If there is a local charity or business directly affected by the attack, please contact me; perhaps we can discuss arranging for a free yoga class to those who need it the most.
Take care, America!

Ah, the weekend. Time to relax...not! Our weekends continue to revolve around filming; and while we're making great progress, there's still much to do! Actually, we hope to continue filming into September and October, to capture the colors of fall. We expect the first of our videos to be ready for release sometime this fall. We'll keep you posted!

A word of thanks....
Well, we jinxed the production schedule by announcing in May that it was running on time. Fortunately, we're not terribly behind, but weather, technical difficulties, and some bad luck has slowed our progress down. Nonetheless, we are continuing to chip away at our filming. We owe a great thanks to Mark Spreyer at the Stillman Nature Center for his cooperation in putting the "location" in our "on location" shoots!

Website Redux
We've just given the website a facelift, though have yet to publish it to www.treeoffitness.com. If you've manage to stumble onto this version on the Internet, you win the super-sleuth award, as this new website won't be "officially" unveiled until fall of this year!

Video Shoots Begin on Schedule
Something must be terribly wrong...our production schedule has begun on time. Isn't there a written rule that all film projects are supposed to perpetually run behind schedule?
